I'm in a confusing situation, please help

Hi,
My situation is a bit confusing so bear with me. My wife and I are from New York. We were just getting started collecting information for adoption, when she got a job offer that she has been waiting years for. She was transferred to Geneva, Switzerland, where we are currently residing. We sold our home in N.Y. We are U.S. citizens with Swiss residency visas. We have no address in the states. We are very interested in becoming adoptive parents but if the process wasn't complex and confusing enough, we have piled on more obstacles. We don't know where to start or whom to ask. We will be here in Switzerland for the next 3 years. If there is anyone who can help shed some light on this issue it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for reading. Happy New year.

I would contact the child welfare agency in the last place you lived in the States. They should be able to help you get a starting point at least. I have heard it can be done. It depends on what kind of adoption you are looking for. Best of luck!

I haven’t seen a whole ton of expat’s post here – but I do know there are groups out there who can offer guidance.

If you haven’t already – google expat adoption…there should be some resources there for you!

Babe,

Make sure you PM that URL to the original poster - it had some great info, but because its a fee based service, we can't post it openly on the forums!

Thanks!

Ahhh....Depending on where you want to adopt FROM, I may have a wealth of information for you in my little head. Are you looking to do a US adoption or an international adoption?
