Just starting

I'm just about to send my application to the agency (finally managed to contact the references, yay!). I can't wait to be done with the homestudy and to finally have our profile in the book! We're doing domestic adoption.

Anyone else just starting and wants to have other people to share their progress with?

Oooh yeah, me me me!!

My husband and I are just starting out. We have begun our homestudy and have our physical scheduled for next week. It seems like such a daunting process, so we are trying hard to just focus on doing one thing at a time and crossing off things from our checklist. I heard the thing that takes the longest is the fingerprinting. Ugh. We have to do that next week, too.

We are in California and doing domestic adoption. I look foward to getting to know you more!

Lisa

I started back in February with the call to DHS, got an initial home visit around March or April. Took PRIDE classes in May and June. Got our physicals in August then turned in the last bit of our paperwork in September and now we are just waiting on our home study. I am starting to get anxious because it seems like this is taking sooo long. Our intention is to adopt through Foster Care in our state a sibling group of boys between 5 and 11.

Anyone know how long after a homestudy till we can start submitting on children?

I'm surprised it has been taking you this long. We are in NY state. We starter our Classes on Aug 2 and were certified and ready to go Dec 9th.
I will say that our Caseworker told us that we moved along quickly since we got all of our paperwork etc done quickly and turned in.
I would call your worker who is in charge of your homestudy and ask her when everything will be completed. We did this two times.
We were told that as soon as the homestudy was complete and we sgined our certification papers... we could get a phone call. Could happen the next day... could happen a few months from then.( we are still waiting on our first placement)
good luck.

Question Background check

Could you please help me whom should I approach for the background check? Should I go to a local Immigration office like Department Of Homeland security? I talked to a local police station, they are not of much help.

Ours was part of the paperwork we had to fill out and turn in, they handled it all we did was fill out the paper and have it noterized. Because we have lived in AR all our lives we didn't have to get the FBI check only the local criminal background check.

It was the end of September when we turned in our paperwork and I know they have upto 6 months to do our homestudy, but I have friends who are fostering and just finished class Saturday, got their homestudy on Monday. I have talked several times to the SW and had a few appointments but the first time it snowed and she couldn't make it, then the 2nd one I had to change because of a school program for my oldest. The 3rd she said she just forgot. Now she is on vacation till after the 1st of the year. She did say that if she hasn't called by the end of the day on Jan 3rd to call her to set the appointment.

I think here in AR they are faster when you are going foster/adopt rather than straight adoption. But it isn't as if we are looking for a baby or infant, we are actually looking for 1 or 2 boys between 5 and 11.

February will mark one year since we started down this journey, that is when we made the first call to DHS. I am feeling a little down because it feels like it is taking soooooo long.

Howdy from Texas yall! We just signed off on the last bit of paper work yesterday (we got it in the mail) and are driving it to our agency on Tuesday. We would have done it today but they are closed for the holidays until then. It has been a long road but it has all happened at the right time. My cousins are in the oil and gas business and they made a huge gift to us to help pay for it all. Not so bitter at high gas prices now. Our agency will start showing us to bp next week. Happy NEW year!!!

My husband and I are also starting this journey too. We just got our application to fill out a couple of days ago. We are hoping to adopt from China. I am really excited and nervous too. I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping all works out.

Yay! It's so great seeing more people posting here!!

So, let's see if we can figure out who is doing what...

Domestic Infant Adoption:
Fran
Lisa

International:
Andi (China)

Foster to Adopt:
Lillian
Squirlygirl
mcnh
Wishin (and yay for rich oil relatives!!)
Mominalberta

Do I have this right? Even though we are all taking different paths on this adoption journey, it would be great to be able to go along together.

We are in a bit of a holding pattern right now due to our physicals. I was found to have some "dense tissue" in my left breast and have a mammogram scheduled to rule out that it is nothing but after effects of IF drugs (at least I am counting on that being the case!) and DH tested "inconclusive" on his TB test, so he has to have a lung x-ray to get a definitive answer. Until both of these issues are resolved, we are sort of stuck, but we are still continuing to work on our profiles.

How is it going for everyone else?? I look forward to getting to know everyone!

I really appreciate putting this little list here together. It is always nice to know some of the other people who are going through the same process.

Smile New to the process

Hi Ladies!

My husband and I are in the VERY beginning stages of starting to become a fost-adopt parent in California. We have 2 biological boys and are looking for at least one girl, but would like sisters if possible.

Just looking for ladies to chat with about the process..we are very excited about it all and can't wait to have a daughter!

Good Luck to all you wonderful ladies!

Jessica
