what will SW ask at home visit?

We have been ttc for 3 1/2 yrs and after several failed IUI's and IVF's we decided it's time to move on to adoption. DH has an 8 yr old son from a previous relationship, who lives with us part-time. He would love to have a little brother and might even settle for a little sister.

I read that when the SW visits the home for the homestudy, they'll want to talk to everyone who lives in the home. DH and I weren't planning on telling DSS about the adoption thing yet, so we are wondering if that's something we'll have to do before the home visit? Does DSS have to know about it? Will they ask him specific questions about adoption and how he feels about us adopting?

Thanks!

that's a good question. we had no children (other than furry ones) when sw visited so I'm not sure of the answer. I suspect it depends on the age of the child whether they'll even discuss the issue. I think it's more about whether this child is thriving in your care (and thus the new child will thrive too).

good luck!
