Smile Single women waiting to adopt

I am single and just started my process a couple of months ago. So far so good. If anyone is going through the same process as a single person, or has any advice let me know.
Thanks
lisa

Hi!

I'm a 33 year old single woman waiting to adopt. It's exciting to know there are others like me out there!!

My home study was approved October 5th and my Foster Care licensing is being processed as we speak.

I am planning to do foster/adopt, but my agency also assists potential birthparents in making adoption plans so my profile is also being shown to them.

How long have you all been waiting?

Lisa

have you been assigned a case worker. when i was going through a private agency, i was assigned a worker who i could call or e-mail with any questions. i would gather the needed paper work and turn it in and ask for ball park time frames. good luck!!!

I'm 41, single, and looking to adopt through foster care. I've made it through 2 out of 4 home visits for my home study. Working with the state can be extremly frustrating, but I'm just trying to get through it and think about the end result.
I'm hoping for a sibling group of 2, ages 1-10. All my friends and family aren't too crazy about me adopting out of foster care. I haven't even told anyone that I'm hoping for a sibling group. This site is awesome for information.

does anyone know how long it takes (after they come out) to get you homestudy approved? I got mine done 10-12-05, and still have not heard anything back. I feel like it is a long time to wait to get that back. thanks lisa

Red face home study done

Hello, I am a single parent waiting to adopt a child through an agency in CA, f3-9 I have one bio child f11yrs. I have finished all the requirments my home study was done this wednesday, I asked sw what the time frame was she said in a couple of weeks, does anyone know what the next step is??? I asked sw, she stated that it needed to be reviewed and revised by her superviser and then I would have the final draft, is there anyone out there with similiar story?

home study done today

I just finished my home study today. Finally! Now it goes to the licensing supervisor. She should have it approved next week or the week after. Then I will be assigned an adoption worker. I believe that person explains the adoption process, support programs, etc. The final step after that is having a social worker assigned and then waiting for that phone call. I don't know yet how long it takes to get a social worker assigned after my license is approved.
It seems so strange to be at the point where I'm thinking about getting 'the call'. I didn't understand people being so excited/anxious about waiting for the call until about an hour after finishing my final visit for the homestudy. Now I know!

Brand-new

I'm brand new to all of this... my first post to any of these forums. I am 32 and getting ready to start the process from the very very beginning. I have been thinking about adoption in the back of my mind since my mid-20s, but I decided a few months ago that now is the time. I am excited and anxious about it but feeling more and more sure that now is the time.

I hope to adopt a newborn (under 6 months) from Guatemala. I had initially thought to aim for Spring 2007, beginning the official process in Fall 2006 (shorter process typically in Guatemala), but I am wondering if I should try to do this sooner....

One question I have is how you all decided to time your adoptions. I am a college professor, so I have summers off and about 6 weeks off around Christmas holidays. For that reason, I would love for my baby to arrive in the spring so that I could be home all summer, have a lighter schedule for fall, have January off, thus not have to go to near full-time daycare schedule until the baby is potentially 9 months to a year old.

Another question... how did you all choose adoption agencies?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I'm adopting internationally through China. And I've got a long wait ahead of me, due to the longer processing times for singles here (my state in Australia) and then the single parent quota that China has.
