We got picked-it can actually happen!

I have been lurking here for 8 months watching and while we wait for a call. I questioned our profile often and thought we would never get picked as we are "old". (43 & 45). We are also very outdoorsy and back to nature. Which may not be every birthmother's dream! We were very discouraged and talked less and less about it. The baby's room was gathering dust! It turns out that the birthmom is 35, loves camping and water sports. She saw our profile and didn't want to look at any others. Now I have to dust off the bassinette and rewash all the clothes (any add some new ones!) ** is due Oct 9. To everyone out there who is waiting, relax, keep busy and don't jump every time the phone rings......things happen, seasons come and go and somewhere a child is conceived. Life happens.

Which agency did you use? We're older too and we're having a hard time finding an agency we feel good about.

Thanks for all the good wishes. We will not be able to meet the mother until after the baby is born as we live far away. We are having a conference call with her on tuesday. To all you older adoptive mother's who are waiting. Our ** is 35 so our age is not as much an issue than a ** who is a teenager. Many Birthmom's have "drug issues" as our does. She did crack for three days in her third trimester. The good news is that she did not use alcohol. This is her 5th child. I will keep you informed. My ears are sore from all my friends phoning and screaming with happiness for us!

To those of you searching for agencies, try to be open and positive and trust that they will present you in a fair manner. Being a potential adoptive parent is a very vulnerable position and some agencies are so focussed on babies & birthmothers that they forget about the needs of the waiting parents.

THERE ARE EIGHT DIFFERENT WAYS YOUR CHILD CAN DIE ON A CORDED WINDOW TREATMENT
Read "How Safe Cords Kill" at www.pfwbs.org

THREE CHILDREN HAVE STRANGLED TO DEATH SINCE ANGEL DIED ON 8/11/09.
Brandyn Coppedge died on 9/11/09. Rosie Smith died on 9/30/09 and Thapelo Kwofie died on 11/1/09. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is no longer recommending safety kits. They are now recommending that anywhere children live or visit should be free of corded window products.

Well we are back home with our new bundle of joy! He was 6 lbs 7 oz which is a good size for a cocaine exposed child. He has no tremors or sign of neonatal abstinence. Everything looks normal according to the DR. We are blessed! We waited for 8 months to have Emanuel enter our lives.
