Question How many folks have used a web profile?

I am one of those people with little patience ('though I pray nightly for God to grant me some, RIGHT NOW ) My agency advocates for paparents to network/advertise, but (understandably) does not push in any particular direction. I feel like a web page might help in having a centralize place for info and updates for pbparents and for family and friends to send people to as kind of an extended word-of-mouth.

Any way I am looking for opinions of those of you who have consider this option. It would be a stand-alone page, not a link or a page from an existing "organized" groups of profile, mostly because of the expense. I thought I would start out with a web page and move to an organization, if I felt like I needed to bump up my efforts. So what do you think? I appreciate any input.

Thanks,

We had a stand-alone page that we linked to other sites - free, low cost sites mostly.

We also put our webpage info on our networking cards, flyers, profile letters.

We used an e-mail group to keep our friends and family informed and motivated to help us network. Updated the group every time we got a contact or every few weeks, whichever came first. One of the group members ended up making the connection that resulted in our son.

BTW you never can tell - one of those lovely folks at Kinkos may make your connection too. We got 'leads' through restaurant waitresses, people at banks, strangers who found our cards in places like ATMs and public restrooms. Our mail carrier, newspaper delivery guy and the guy who ran the food truck at DH's work all helped us network.

So remember to include them in your networking efforts.

useful...but

we found our site useful mostly as a second place to send interested expectant parents after speaking to them for the first time. sort of a virtual leave-behind.

The limitations, of course, is that it is vitually impossible to drive general internet search traffic there. to do that, the aggregated DMBL registries are the best way to go. I know some of them have gotten expensive, but they provide great outreach.

We have a website that my husband designed www.definitely.com (If you'd like to take a look) but I don't know how useful it's been so far. I think we need to do more outreach or advertising with google or yahoo or something to get more traffic to it.

I am like you with the whole patience thing. I am so ready for a baby it's unbelievable. The only thing I need is formula at this point.

One thing that made me kind of be ok with the wait was talking with a couple of adoptive parents that had rushed the process and gotten involved with a couple that were not on the up and up. I'd rather not have to deal with that so if it takes a little longer that's ok. But hopefully not too long.

Good luck with your search!
Julia
