Missouri Adoption

Has anyone recently adopted from Missouri? Around the St. Charles/St. Louis area? We live in WA and may adopt a baby from Missouri but have heard that the baby is placed in foster care after birth. Is this true, if so, for how long? And how long does the birthparents have to change their mind? Is it once it's signed its irravocable or do they have the 30 days? Any info would be great. You may also PM me!

I live in Missouri and we are waiting to adopt. We were told by our agency that the baby is not always placed into foster care; the baby can go home with you. I know TPR cannot be done until 48 or 72 hours after birth. Sorry I don't have very clear info, but I don't know much since we haven't gotten to adopt yet. Good luck with your possible adoption! Shay

I adopted my son in May 2003 from Missouri. I got to take him home from the hospital. The birthmother had to wait AT LEAST 48 hours after giving birth. That is to make sure she is not on any pain meds that could influence her decision. She can take as long as she needs though. After she signed, we had to go to court a few days later for TPR. She was not required to show up and she didn't. After that, she could not change her mind. Then we finalized 6 months later. We had to stay in Missouri for about 1 1/2 weeks total before we could go home. I hope that this helps.
