HI,
I've just completed my last home visit for the homestudy. I've been in contact with a Charlee Program caseworker re: an older child that we are very interested in adopting. I've not yet mentioned this to our 'home developer' and I'm looking for some suggestions as well as answers. 1. Does anyone have any info on the Charlee Program...how long this process takes (I live in Louisiana) and what has your experience been with this organization if any. 2. How do I approach this with my home developer? The Florida caseworker is wanting a copy of my homestudy asap...but I've not been 'offically' approved yet, however; our home developer says it will be no problem. We have a wonderful family unit that's stable...etc...just not sure how to get this moving in the right direction....I know that she will not give us a copy of the homestudy. Any info will be appreciated kim |

Hi I live in Massachusetts and I legally had the right to my homestudy! I belive you do too! I am so glad that I did get a copy because some of it was wrong. You should be able to get a copy of it all but the personal refrences. On my copy it did list who gave the refrance and that was good enough for the agency I faxed it to. Look into it though I think it is your right! Jocelyn

Thank you for your reply. I've not checked this in awhile as you can see. Lots happened since last posting. Our homestudy is finally completed and our home developer knows about the child we are interested in. The state agency refuses to give us a copy of the homestudy..says it's against policy, but Florida has made 2 requests for it. Our home developer read me some history typed in our study and it was ALL WRONG, dates, times, people...the entire thing..she's a new employee...this scares me because it could effect the outcome. I've asked her supervisor to review it first...since we've been denied access to it.
Question: If we're matched and we make a visit to Florida to see this 8 yr old girl....I'm curious re: conversation..small talk, no problem...but do these kids know that we are looking to adopt them? Can we discuss this with them before saying goodbye?....How will I know if she really wants to be adopted by people she doesn't know....at this age, it wouldn't surprise me if she doesn't want to leave where she's at. I'm really without a clue how this comes together...if you have any experience with this, please let me know. |

I am not sure how to help you, we live in FLA and I just wanted to tell you to be yourself when you meet. Do something fun also so that you can have fun while together.
Keep us posted and hope all works out! God Bless, Summer
