Homestudy
Hello to Everyone
![]() My husband and I are going through a open adoption and have completed everything except our Homestudy, can anyone help us in what they are looking for or what it may consist of We are wanting to adopt an infant, but I have a friend of mine that her and her husband are going through a different type of adoption they want a toddler. I guess my question is are the homestudy different do to the age of the child you receive? |

Hello!
I've only been through one homestudy - but I do believe that they are all the same. They may ask you questions pertaining to the age of the child you are seeking, but mostly they want to know about your family, see your home (once I cleaned under the beds before the social worker came over...my hubby laughed at me), and know how you handle change and stress (yes, a baby or older child can disrupt the "flow" of your life!) Of course, every social worker has their way of doing things, but don't despair over this...you will get through it! They will separate you and your hubby for separate interviews as well. Unless you have something major in your life (illness, criminal record, ect.) I wouldn't worry about it...just something that must be done so that the social workers can feel confident placing a child in your home. Blessings, sherryk host

Home Study
Sherry is right. The home study is nothing to worry about -- even though we all do!
![]() Your social worker will probably want to know more about your family, your marriage, your philosophy on child rearing, etc. He or she will also walk through your home to ensure it is safe and appropriate for a child. You'll also need to gather financial documents (bank statements, credit card statements, loan balances, etc.), as well as a copy of last year's tax return. It is very rare for a couple not to "pass" a home study, so just be yourself and try not to worry too much. It will all be fine! The home study is actually the easy part. Good luck,

I was really nervous for the home visit part of our homestudy...wanted everything to be perfect. When our social worker came she barely looked at the house. She did talk to us at length several times and had us produce references, financial statements, doctor statements, criminal check, and fill out a huge questionaire. It all turned out ok in the end. Hang in there!
