impatiently waiting

I was matched with a 5 year old in Texas in August. I am still waiting with no idea when I will go down to Texas for transition visits (I'm in Colorado).

I have read all of her records. Her room is ready, the transition book is finished. I have taked to her GAL and foster parents. I am not getting impatient. Now I am just waiting and waiting.

Ideas to help me through this time? I had a long wait after match for my first adoption, but virtually done with my 2nd. Ideas to get through this time, and to push the SW to get the paperwork done, but not be a total pest?

Hi Carrie!

I think weekly phone calls to see how things are going would be fine. You want that sw to have you in the forefront of his/her mind. I personally don't understand what is taking so long...you were matched in August? How long did you wait for your other adoption? We only waited one week from telling us we were matched to visiting our daughter. She was home with us within the month (granted she was nine months old and there was no reason to prolong it.)

It sounds like you have already "nested" for your new arrival. Maybe while you wait, you take some time for yourself. Get a pedicure, read a good book, take a bubble bath - or whatever you enjoy. Do you subscribe to Adoptive Families Magazine? I highly recommend it! Is there anything in her records that you need to do research on? Sometimes reading about the things she's gone through or special needs she may have can better prepare you for her arrival. I know for me, reading about preemie development gave me more confidence to parent my little bundle.

In the meantime, keep posting here! We want to encourage and support you during this time.

Blessings,
sherryk

I hope you hear something soon and are able to go pick up the child. You are almost there. May this child be placed in your arms immediately.
