I am so frustrated lately. My dh and I are looking at domestic infant adoption. But we want to adopt as inexpensively as possible. We were trying to find a birthmother who is wants to put her baby up for adoption and would be willing to consider us as adoptive parents. Does anyone have any ideas on how to go about doing this (finding a birthmother)? Has anyone personally done this? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks so much! cabryan

We let friends, family, and coworkers know of our decision to adopt and asked them to keep their eyes and ears open. It did net us one match, although the bmom decided to parent after the birth.
We also had our profile published on line. There are a number of sites that will let you do this. Some have a monthly fee, but some yearly. That was how our second match happened. "K" wasn't happy with any of the couples profiles she was being shown by her local agency, and realizing she would be moving next year anyway went on-line to find couples in our state. The rest is history. I've also heard of couples printing business cards with their names (first only) and a blurb about adoption and a phone number. And there is the local, college, and penny saver papers you can advertise in. Our state did require that adoptive parents have a completed homestudy before advertising for bparents. If you do not have a complete home study, please make sure your state is not similar.

Adding to Sarah's suggestions....
1. Make up a flyer and put it up in your car windows. Ask friends & family to do the same. 2. Take the same flyer and/or business cards and post in laundromats, community bulletin boards, etc. 3. We did a great deal of networking through business cards - left them everywhere - gas pumps, ATM machines, public restrooms, malls, left with tip at restaurants, on pay phones, etc. This was very inexpensive using VistaPrint (google it). 4. Don't just tell everyone you know, keep them udpated on your efforts. Make up an e-mail list of all your friends, family, etc. Update everyone every few weeks or so. If they're helping you search, update every time you get a contact too. This is how we connected with Ryan's bfmamily - we had just sent out an update email on our search, one of the list members remembered us a week later when she found out her stepdaughter was pregnant and wanted to make an adoption plan! HTH best of luck. Regina
