Friendships in adoption!

Hey all!

What kind of friendships have you formed in the process of adoption? (Hopefully, many of you will say from this forum!)

Do you have close friends that have adopted? Once you've adopted, do you want to be a support for others?

We all know that this process can be an emotional roller-coaster!

Blessings,
sherryk

Coincedently my 2 best friends have also adopted. One of them I met in college before we ever had kids. We both ended up adopting at seperate times years later. The other one I met through a playgroup for our oldest kids. She adopted 10 years later. I belonged to an adoptive parents group that we were active in until my child was 4 years old. Then gradually we lost contact. I think what happens is in the beginning you need someone to talk to about being adoptive parents, and after awhile you just become a parent. We ended up having concerns about schools, sports, etc. regular parenting issues- and we had lots of people to talk about it with. Plus our adoption has gone smoothly, I might have sought more support if I needed it. I am on these boards pretty intensely right now because I am working on my senior seminar project involving adoption narratives. I interviewed some live people, but I also wanted to see what members of the triad talked about without asking. I find myself getting caught up way more than I imagened I could. I really feel more educated on the views of birthmothers and adult adoptees. I only know one bmom outside my children's, so its good to read their stories and see their insights.
