Question Multiple Requests??

Wow, I just found this part of this site. Great information....

Question for those of you that have adopted legally freed children in or out of state....
I put in a request for information on a few kids and gave the ususal cursory information. A couple of days later, my licensing worker called and told me that I had been matched with children. One is a sibling group, and another single girl. Of course I was ecstatic. But she told me that I had to pick on or the other to pursue, which seemed odd. I figured the matching part probably happens with a ton of families, so it doesn't necessarily put you too far down the path. It seemed reasonable to therefore pursue the initial stages of getting information on multiple different kids (not that you are going to go as far as meeting them, but at least to get started). What have your experiences been? Have you initiated requests against multiple children?

Also, although I am a licensed foster parent, apparently I need to have another visit, etc. to finish my homestudy. Has anybody been able to get kids within their own state to move in before the homestudy is complete?

Lastly, how long has your process been from the time you are "matched" to the time that you actually meet the children?

Thanks for your inputs.
Blessings,
Robbin

We are just at the point that you are.... Our SW has been inquiring about many kids for us. Finally, last week, we received the child profile of one, whom we want to pursue.

I asked our SW if we could continue getting info about other kids, and sending out our HS, but she said no... that is gets too confusing and too time-consuming to have so many active cases out there.

So we have to wait to find out what happens with Kid #1 before we can keep looking/sending .. unless of course we are placed with Kid #1.

I agree it is a little strange, but I'm willing to go along with it. Especially since I think they are going to be making a decision rather quickly on Kid #1's placement.

Good luck!

In my state --Oregon-- we would not be able to get any more info until our homestudy is completed and registered with the State (which took another 6-weeks after the homestudy was finished)

We are also encouraged to have multiple matches and to go all the way through the process with as many matches as we want to pursue......the first placement resulting in our name being withdrawn from the other matches. When we went to the placement committee on our siblings we were set to go to committee on three other possible placements in the next 30 days!!!!

Either way I think every state will require the homestudy to be finished before you are considered as a placement..... In many states you cannot even start the matching process until the homestudy is complete.
