How did you decide what type of adoption?
There are a lot of decisions to make regarding adoption...which type of adoption is one of them.
How did you decide what type of adoption was best for you? Did you research the Internet? How did you decide on an Agency? Lawyer? Facilitator? Let us know! Blessings, sherryk moderator

Deciding on adoption
I researched the topic in depth - took me three months. I took the emotion out of it, and looked at it as if I were pregnant, the steps I would go through to have a healthy baby. Specifically, I looked for:
-Programs accepting of adoptive parents 40 and over -The health of the babies -Availability of babies -Short timeframe -One international trip, versus two -Program in a democratic society, versus one that required you to take a wad of money with you - and not knowledge of where that money was going -Talked to other adoptive parents -Agency with proven track record We decided on Guatemala. Money wasn't an issue, good thing since this program is one of the most expensive. We are completely blessed and thrilled with our little daughter, who we've had for six months.

We decided on China and our agency because of the experience of a friend. My husband travelled to China with his friend last year (a single mom) to help her through the trip. She brought back a beautiful little girl.
My husband had a vasectomy during his first marriage (he has two children) so we decided adoption would be much better for us than trying to reverse his vasectomy. I honestly didn't research any other agencies besides the one his friend went through just because they are local and seem to be very organized and helpful. We did look at information on other countries, but because of his experience having been to China and going through the process with his friend, we really knew that's what we wanted. Besides, I've always wanted a little girl and China is the perfect country because of their abundance of girls needing homes. I have also heard too many stories about how difficult it is to adopt domestically. We already have a multicultural family (I have two hispanic-american nephews and my husband has two african-american nephews), so the nationality of our child is of no concern to us. We apply for our adoption this December and we can't wait!!! ![]()

It really is amazing...
how families are formed through adoption! When you think of it, it is quite a miracle!
I always thought we would do international adoption as I had my sights on an Asian baby girl, but when an aquaintance of mine told me that there was a need for fost/adopt in our state, so we decided on that route. Cost reasons also affected our decision as fost/adopt is affordable. Our experience was a positive one and we are so blessed to have our Filipino daughter here from the states! God bless you in your adoption journey! sherryk moderator
