New, adopting through state foster care

Hi, I'm new here. My hubby and I are adopting through our state's foster care system. Just wanted to see if anyone else was going through the same thing and where you are in the process.

Take care, DJ

Thanks for the welcome!! It's nice to see other people going through the same thing. Let's keep each other updated! Are you both looking for infants, siblings, boys, girls??

what we are hopefully supposed to be approved for

We are supposed to be approved and I say supposed to be cause my worker has to get the ok through a committee of our homestudy. She approves us then our agency must approve us also in committee.

We are supposed to be approved for up to 3 children, up to the age of 11. Boys or Girls. We have only on spare bedroom. But it is the Master bedroom and it is huge. So, that means we can have either 3 boys or 3 girls. My hubby would prefer the girls and I am happy with whatever comes our way LOL

How about you? What types of children are you interested in adoption?

Angel

Angel, we are interested in a sibling group. Doesn't matter if it's boys or girls. We wanted to stay between infant and twelve years of age. As of right now, we are waiting to hear if we're going to be matched with four sisters. That should happen in the next few weeks.

Good luck!

Donna

This summer we just finalized our sibling group special needs adoption. Please feel free to email me if I can help with anything along the way by sharing my experiences.

Hi DJ,
My husband and I are just starting out with the foster to adopt program. This week will be our 6th class of 8. Our social worker hasn't started visits yet accept for the initial safety check. Does anyone have any tips? I am also looking for any information on people who have or are intending to adopt outside their race. My husband and I are white and are looking into adopting a hispanic infant. We are very concearned about the childs opion/issues as it gets older. If anyone has been in this situation and has any information, we would really appreciate it.
Thanks!
Ps . Good luck DJ!

My husband and I are in our late 30's and have always wanted a child but never could have one and have been talking about adoption for a few years but we can not afford the high fees so we decided to go with the state because we want a child between the ages of 4 and 8 just getting started. We went to one class it was a really good one but because of low attendance they were able to cancel them our social worker gave us a packet with a bunch of “ what if” questions that are kind of hard. Some true and false questions that are easy. The other questions were problem solving ones. He said that we have to write our life story, and have a physical and do some paper work on our finances and when I get everything done to give him a call. And if he has time, he might call us back around January. I think that our one class was a good one but now we have been told that we must wait until January to see if they will have a bigger class. Today my sister called and said that on the front door of the tax office they had a sign saying that there are a number of children in foster care needing adoption, and here we all sit until January it makes me mad. One lady is a widow who is in her 50's who was at the class and wants to foster and has a house with 7 bedrooms and she has to wait till January too! We are almost finished with all the paper work and questions it just looks as if we are in for a long wait in Mississippi.

Nice to see others going through the same thing! We're adopting through our state and are looking for siblings, two, even three. We're just about half way with our homestudy and should be approved around Christmas.
