Melissa,

I am a bit confused... are you an adoptee or looking to adopt? Or maybe both?

To become potential adoptive parents through a private agency you must first complete an initial application and them be accepted by the agency. Then you are assigned a social worker to complete a homestudy through your state whcih consists of many factors of your home, financial status, and currect relationships. You also must be fingerprinted and have referrals from friends and your employer. A fire and safety inspection is also done on your home. Some religious affiliated agencies require a statement from your pastor as well.
After visits with the social worker both in office and in your home the homestudy is completed and reviewed.

I hope that this answers your question. I am not exactly sure what you were looking for
