Anyone used GARR to search?
I am thinking about using GARR's services to search for my birthmother. I believe my birthmother possibly gave up two other children for adoption and would like to locate them if possible. Plus I know I have an older 1/2 sister.
Any comments on GARR's services, ability, and how long a search takes? Thanks Ann Born 10/24/62 Savannah GA |

Garr
I searched for my husband's sister for years, Last October I found out about GARR and the day after I faxed in my husband's info, we had a match. His sister was also registered. It took two days for them to contact her and then call us back with the info. Patricia and Suzanne were both wonderful. They advised me not to pay the searching fee at first, to register and see what happened and then, as a last resort, pay the 300.00 fee. We never needed to do that. Good luck in your search. Have you checked their search boards?

Yes, I have used it, six months ago. We have been reunited and everything is wonderful. It took about a week and a half after I sent in for my non-iden. info. If any questions please email, I'd love to help or lend a listening ear. Good Luck!!!

I used the GARR
xxx
Hello - I used the Georgia Adoption Reunion Registry - I paid my $35.00 and received a thick (10-page) business envelope with all non-identifying information regarding my birthmother & birthfamily. The information took about a month to arrive - possibly sooner. Although I was happy to have the information that I did receive, I've been really saddened by the amount of money the state demands (at least $300) that we (as adoptees) have to pay in order for them to petition the state for IDENTIFYING information to be given to the adoptee. If they are denied, or if the birthfamily says "no," you lose your money. I'm not okay with this - As far as I'm concerned - these are our rights - it should be public record - no money involved. |

How were you reunited from non-identifying information - did you have another route that you went through after that??
