Arrow Important Posting Information

*** READ FOR YOUR PROTECTION ***

If you are searching for a family member separated from you by relinquishment and adoption be sure and include this information in the subject line of your posting AND in your message:

…gender of adoptee
…date of birth of adoptee
…city and state of birth of adoptee

It’s best not to include additional facts from your non-id information. If there is a match based on the above information you want to be able to confirm additional information with the person who has contacted you but does not have the right information unless it is an actual match. This helps to keep a distance between you and scammers who might possibly claim to be your relative or claim to have found your relative based on information that you posted.

To avoid scammers contacting you on ANY of the adoption search related websites on the internet:

It is best if you DO NOT POST YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS in the body of the message. Also, set the options in your profile to only accept a Private Message so that the person contacting you must go through the forum board to contact you without obtaining your email address. A genuine volunteer will post information to the public message board. If you need help changing the options in your profile contact me and I will assist you.

If you are helping other people search it is wise to never post addresses and phone numbers, social security numbers or driver’s license information of possible relatives. Posting this type of information involves invasive privacy issues and angers the person whose information is being posted without their authorization.

If you contact a search firm to do your search or if a search firm contacts you wanting to charge a search fee there are several very important considerations to request when hiring a search firm:

…a reputable search firm should ALWAYS offer you a contact which you and the firm BOTH sign guaranteeing that you do not pay for a search that does not locate a member of your biological family. If any partial payment as a deposit is requested to begin the search, it must be returned upon demand if you decide that the search is not progressing within a reasonable time period (3-6 months). Do not pay for the search in full before the search starts.

…make sure that the firm’s definition of “find” is not a LIST of people with a similar name and/or comparable age. The only true find is YOUR biological relative …not similar people that you probably are not even related to.

…ask for references and actually contact them!

Georgia birth certificates

Can you tell me what Georgia's rules and regulations are for requesting a birth certificate of an adoptee? I know each state has it's own set of rules and someone suggested that I ask you what they were.

Can I just go to public birth records?
Thanks
R.

An adoptee (or a member of their immediate family) can request a copy of their amended birth certificate at this office:

State of Georgia
Vital Records
Department of Human Resources
Room 217H
47 Trinity Avenue., SW
Atlanta GA 30334

Phone: 404-656-4900

The original birth certificate is sealed and not available.

I need info

My wife wrote the Grady hospital archives to look in June 1970 for a Baby Furman. Wrote and said no such name. They must have assigned a fake name for birth certifcate.
She was at florece Crittendon in atlanta at the time. What in the world can we do next? We are lost!!!

amended birth certificate

My husband's amended b\c does not have the name of a hospital nor the name of the birth attendant (doctor or midwife). It seems they only included information that was least helpful and as vague as possible.

good luck

This is for the Search Guru if possible. I never did get a response from you from earlier emails. You must be knowledgable than most of us out there. Again, Look at my email about Grady hospital and Atlanta georgia. Please give us a tip on what we can do. I wrote the Grady Archives just to get the exact date of birth of the child and they said the last name does not exist.
We must be entitled to just health hospital stay records at Grady. It would seem that has nothing to do with adoption. Just record from the stay.
It was June 1970. Does anyone have any tips since Georgia is so restricted. What about old Florece Crittendon records from the Atlanta branch where my wife was. Would they be anywhere?

Any thing could help What do you think, Guru?

Frank

Tess71,
I finally called the Georgia Adoption Reunion Registry the Number is404-657-3555 or 1-888-328-0055. If you were born in Georgia for a fee of $35.00 they will give you your non-Id. It should tell you where you were born.
That is how I found out where I was born.
Thanks,

Beverly,

I am by no means an expert on this, but it would seem logical to me that if the hospital knows you were registered under a false name they wouldn't expect you to know what that name was, right? So it just makes sense that some other information that only you would know could be substituted for the name - exact time of birth, baby's weight, doctor's name, etc. Also, I thought the non ID was about the birth parents? How will that be helpful to you? Does it contain info on the child also? Have you tried searching using the birth father's last name?

My husband & I are contemplating a professional search. Have you considered this? Perhaps a professional has more resources or just knows how to access them better.

Good luck!

Keith,

Thanks! My husband just called the adoption registry to get the stuff to fill out to get his non ID info. How long did it take you to receive it once you sent it in?

Thanks
Tess

It took a little over a month.I had to keep calling them. So If you stay on them they may give it to you sooner! I mailed mine. Now I think you can fax them information etc.

Thanks,

Question ISO Male adoptee, Atlanta Georgia, DOB between 8/65 - 4/66

I have been searching for over 10 years for a brother who was given up for adoption. He was born in Atlanta, GA...I am unable to get his birth certificate because I do not know his exact date of Birth...mom will not give me this info, by all information we can get most likely birth took place during the winter either late 1964 or early 1965. The State Adoption Reunion Office says they have no file with her name...in other words, no record of her giving a child up for adoption ever. She admits that this happened however will not help in the search. Do you know of anything or anywhere else I could try? I desperately want to find my brother.

Thank you.
