I just wanted to let you know that you can, in fact, handle your own adoption. It is not necessary to use a lawyer, especially if it's a step-parent adoption. I have three children of my own and am in the process of adopting my wife's two children. We did all of the legwork ourselves and saved tons of money. If you haven't already recieved help, let me know. I can give you more details on how we handled the "step-parent" adoption.

stepparent adoption info
Could I please have the information you have on stepparent adoption. My husband is going to adopt my 3 boys. We go to see an attorney tomorrow, but we know that is probably going to be expensive. Thank You for any and all the information you can provide. luvmybunch5@aol.com
