I have a few questions I wanted to ask about to see if anyone has any advice or knowledge. I had my daughter at 16, married the father at 15 while pregnant, the marriage lasted 8 months. We divorced and he only paid child support for the first couple of years. I met and married my current husband when she was almost two. He has been caring for her ever since. The bio dad came to husband and offered for husband to adopt her when she was three. He signed consent form, but we never had the money to pay for it to be done. Now, she is fourteen and we are looking at having the money to officially change her name. She has been using her step dad's name all along. She knows the truth and feels that her step dad has always been her dad. The bio dad has never asked to contact or pay child support and I have never persued the child support after he signed the consent. I have been reading the statutes in Missouri and have found that we have the necessary paperwork to file for a legal adoption. With having this information already will this reduce the time it will take to finalize and will it be cheaper? We are going on a cruise next year and her license is coming up also, I want her to be able to use the name she has always used.
