Marriage In Indiana?
We're looking into my son being adopted by my boyfriend (we're engaged) but i dont know how the laws are in Indiana
How long do you have to be married before the stepfather can adopt? Or do you think they can allow the adoption before we even get married? My son's father isnt in the "picture" and isnt even noted as a Parent on his birth cirtificate so the BIO father wont get into anything, if anyone can give me some advice that be awesome ![]() |

My dh adopted my dd in March. In the state of Indiana, you must be married for at least 1 year to adopt, and the the bio father's rights have to be terminated. It is illegal to falsify a birth certificate, so the bio father will need to be notified, if you aren't sure of his whereabouts, a notice can be placed in the paer for so long and that will suffice. We hired an attorney and it was well worth the money, the adoption was granted and this adoption was contested, but the vourts will do what is in the child's best interest. Good luck to you!

The only reason is name isn’t on the birth certificate (so I didn’t do anything illegal) my parents took care of it all.. I was raped when I was 12 years old (I am 19 now) and I’m not allowed to be near the guy, I don’t want to be the near the jerk. And I certainly want to protect my son from any future harm.
I understand about the whole year thing, I begain to talk to a friend of mine who lives in the state just going ahead and just changing the last name. We already have our Lawyer.. Step parenting Adopting the way she explained it, they really went a little to far and followed her husband all around even just to hang out with some of his friends... And just did some really stupid things... |

I just wanted to make sure you knew what we were told, about the illegal thing, I can understand better now and congratulate you on the name change, which should actually be all you need. I find myself blessed that I found my dh to love and care for my dd as his own, and thank God everyday for people like him and your fiancee. Hopefully it won't take as long for you and it won't be as stressful. Do you have to be married for the name change? Congratulations again and let us know how it goes!

I'm pretty sure - we're going in front of the court to be married on Dec 7th.. Only reason why im doing that is to make it go faster.... and of course the decision was between the two of us..Then we'll do the last name thing.. =0)
And we'll probably do a '2nd wedding" in May because the court wedding wont be much fun LOL no planning boo ho Thanks for the encouragement - its already been really stressful ![]() |

Hi my name is Angel and I have been married for almost 4 years and my husband wants to adopt both of my daughters. My oldest daughter's father won't be a problem because his name isn't on her birth certificate and will sign anything just so he doesn't have to pay support. My youngest daughter's father is the problem. She has seen a physcolgist since she was 3 because he touched her. The courts wouldn't force him to sign his rights away because they said a child needs both parents. Even after everything that has happened. She hasn't seen him in 5 years. In 2003 we went to court and the judge suspended his visitation but ordered him to keep paying support. When we walked out of court in Martinsville, In. he told me he was giong to kill me in front of a sheriff but nothing was done to him. Now it is almost the end of 2005 and he hasn't paid support since 2003 but the courts won't make him give up his rights. What else can I do to get this done. Him signing his rights away is all we are waiting on for my husband to adopt my girls. Any help you can give me I would appericate it greatly.
