what legal age can adoptive child contact bio parent?
According to the information I've found on this, the child adopted by a step parent has to reach the age of 18 to request contact information of the bio parent. However, I've had a few people say that it is age 12 in KY. I have no idea where they got this info, but would like to know for sure. Does anyone know for sure which age it is?
Thanks! |

The age is 18. An adoptee, whether adopted by a stepparent or through an agency, can not petition the courts for information identitifying the biological parents until they are 18 (some specific situations may differ, but in general this holds true). If they do try to petition the court before reaching this age, the birth certificate they would receive, and all other info., would only show the adopted parents information, and it would also show the aparents as being the natural parents. Only the legal parents of an adopted child can petition the courts for identifying information if the child is under the age of 18.
Hope this helps!!
