Smile need some sound advice!

My husband wants to legally adopt my two children and they are all for it. My exhusband and I have been separated for almost 11 years and have been divorced for 1 year. He has no contact with the children and I have never kept it a secret as to our where abouts. He pays child support only when a warrant is issued for his arrest and then he pays so they recall the order for arrest. My husband now loves our kids. We don't feel we need an attorney to do our talking for us and want to do this prose ( ourselves ). What forms do we need? All your help is muchly appreciated! Thanks, Angie

If you don't mind me asking, what county do you live in? I live in Stanly county now and when I asked the clerk of court, she was not willing to help me other than to tell me that her office was where everything needed to be filed. She didn't have the forms and told me the only way to get them was thru a lawyer. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a lawyer to fill out forms that I can fill out myself. What did you have to do to get started?

postmaalp,

I am in the same boat as you. My husband wants to adopt my son, but we don't have the money for an expensive lawyer. We want to do everythin pro se, but have had a hard time finding the forms until today. I found them on the DHHS website:

www.dhhs.state.nc.us/dss/forms

I don't know which ones you will need, but I looked at the petition for adoption form for the stepparent and it seems to be self-explanatory, as does the consent forms for spouse and child. I would love to know if this has helped you any, and I will let you know if how my situation turns out.
