How/Where to start Step Parent Adoption.
My son would very much like to adopt his step daughter age 3. Her father has seen her once in the past year, pays no child support etc...My son and his wife live in North Carolina, bio dad lives in Michigan.Makes no attemt to contact. They would like some info on how to start the process. Can bio dads parental right be terminated from another state? They were told if bio-dad made no attemt to contact child for 6 month his rights could be terminated.Fact or Fiction? Thanks for any info!!

My husband is going to adopt my son and we got the parental rights taken away from his father because he never paid child support or ever sent anything and he only saw him once, and it was really easy to do with a lawyer, we were in and out.

Father will not consent
did your attorney tell you if it was IMPOSSIBLE to terminate parental rights if father has paid child support through the county's child support enforcement. He hasn't seen or talked to my daughter in 2 1/2 years and he lives in our city!

It is NOT IMPOSSIBLE to have his rights terminated even if he has paid support, Here in CA if there is NO CONTACT OR NO SUPPORT EITHER OR, YOU CAN TERMINATE PARENTAL RIGHTS. Check with your states CIVIL CODES. Beings he has had no contact in well over 1 year is considered ABANDONMENT. But im not sure in your state, call your Social Services Dpt to make sure..Good Luck

IT was easy to get them taken away for us. Since the bio father never did anything to stop it, all he had to do was reply to the letter that the lawyers sent him to not have them taken away, but he didn't and he never did anything else for our child, the next step is getting my husband to adopt and we are doing that ourselves it cost much less than a lawyer like 450 cheaper.
