Heart New York/Long Island

I have heard from alot of people that we should start a New York thread. I am personally from Long Island so I thought I would combine the two. I hope this thread works out.
So if anyone has any questions or would just like to talk we can do it here and hopefully be able to help each other out.

Don't know

I tried, but not many people posted so I guess I gave up. I'll keep checking back now that I see it is catching on.

sounds good! I was wondering if you or anyone in New York have noticed any changes in foster care since the enconomy is doing so bad?

The cw for my 2 youngest boys said ususally more kids go into care.. however, with everyone being broke, I've heard from my adoption worker that more is being done to keep kids with birth families and having case workers oversee them. Not sure how that's going. I did get a call yesterday for a teenage boy. I had to turn him down.

Hi,

I'm in Nassau County and am newly certified. I haven't had any calls yet. I know they are being cautious since my bios are young but wondered if things have slowed down to to the economy.

we are in the same boat here! I have two bios that are 2 & 3 so they are trying to keep any kids we get under the age of 7. We curently have one foster but can take up to 3 more. We have even been on the emergency lisit for the past month and still haven't had any calls. My case worker said that things have slowed down but she isn't sure if it's the economy or just part of the natural trends. Our country was getting a high number of younger kiddos but now we seem to only be getting pre-teens.

I've adopted 4 of the 10 foster kiddies I've had. the others were either RU or sent to family that could hold all siblings. Friday, I got a call for a 14 yo boy. I felt bad but I couldn't do it. I had one...he had so much potential... but I'm a single parent and I don't get home until 7.... Plus the 4 I have are still healing.

I've been hearing that they get more placements around the summer time because kids are out of school and parents have a harder time having kids home all the time. As the weather gets warmer we may see more people posting about getting placements.
