I was just curious to know if anyone ever sent out flyers to CPS offices in your state? Info on your family and giving them pictures and a short profile of the type of child you want to adopt? I am in the process of doing this and wanted to know any success stories and if it is even worth my time and the money spend on all those stamp?

I did this. I got the address for every county children and youth office in our state. I emailed the ones I could get an email address for and then mailed to the others. I did get some "hits" and they were only from the ones that received it via email. Most of it was "we'll keep it on file" or "thanks, if we have a child(ren) that fits your desires we'll let you know". I never once actually got a child profile through this method.
Im not trying to disappoint you from the effort, b/c I know I did whatever I could to lay some kind of groundwork or network to open some kind of door. This particular path didn't generate anything for me, but it could very well do so for you!

I faxed our profile to over 50 county offices in our state of PA, but it didn't help at all.

We chose to adopt out of state and with each homestudy sent to a case manager we sent along our coverletter. Our 'coverletter' was a scrapbook page with pictures of our family and a letter stating why we wanted to adopt and the preparations our family has done for adoption.
I was overwhelmed with the response! We had dozens of case managers compliment us on our information. Homestudies are dry and all look the same. Make yours stand out! We were identified as a family for our children because the case manager who recieved our coverletter (who already found a family for the children we inquired on) was so impressed she gave it to others in her office who had other children they were trying to place. If you would like to see an example of our cover letter let me know and I would be happy to share it with you. Good luck! |
