I did think it was a strange response and I might inquire further, maybe try to talk to someone else in that office or something. I don't think we're insistent on a particular age, newborn, etc... but under 1 would be wonderful and under 2 would still be of interest to us. and really, a bit older is a possible option. I feel kind of bad having criteria at all, to be honest! but I know that it's important for us to be honest and true to ourselves so we make sure we're 100% into this. I hadn't heard of the 2nd place you mentioned, so I'll look into them as well. I know that we won't be able to afford the type of adoption that involves a pregnant mother and her medical expenses, etc and really do prefer to adopt a child that otherwise would be in foster care. there is just so much information out there and it's pretty overwhelming! I recently found out that adoption fair is this weekend and I'm not sure yet if we'll be able to make it but I'm definitely going to try.
That is true that in their infant networking program they just work to help you get your first child. However, on the newsletter we just got there were a ton of ages 2-5 kids listed that were adopted. Now they may have been part of a sibling group, I'm not sure. I know they have a seperate department that works on foster care adoptions. You might check with them. You never know what they may have even though they say school age on the application.

Good luck to you. I think we'd love to adopt another child but (like u) we can't afford all the expenses for an infant.

We are in the process of trying to adopt through a private agency. Would like to adopt biracial or AA infant or toddler. I do understand that most foster children who are younger are adopted by their foster parents. I know that their have to be some that are not. The agency we are with I can only do Straight Adoption because they do not have a contract with the county I reside, but is contracted with all other counties in NC. They also come highly recommended by many Social Workers all over NC. How can I be more proactive in my search? Would also like to know if anyone knows if I can do foster to adoption with a neighboring county that they have a contract with? It's been a long and frustrating road trying not to give up... .

I'd love to get some more information about fost-adopt in the Raleigh region. We have an 8 week old so we're not going to be adopting again right yet! But I wouldn't mind gathering some information. We're in the Raleigh area, Wake County, and I've heard some not-so-nice things about WC fostercare (ie, how long the licensing takes, how long the cases drag out, etc) and some great things about fostercare in other counties. We would likely only be interested in fost-adopt or straight adoption. Could we adopt from other counties? Is there a straight service that would help us to do so? Would we just have to get a HS and call around? We obviously have some time to info gather, and we have no idea if this is the path we'll take for our next adoption, but we are interested and would love to hear back! Thanks!

lady i dont have the answer for you but i want to wish you luck! Im personally doing a foster to adopt with my agency. I was licensed back in may and im from Franklin county. So far the agency is waiting to find the adoption placement rather than having me foster children while im waiting.

About time we see some action in here. Hello Lady.. My husband & I have fostered for Wake Co. DSS for almost 5yrs (Jan.) and we have seen alot, more bad than good. I seen kids stay in care longer than they should because of disagreements between the FP & the SW and giving the Bp way, way too many chances and not putting the child(ren) first like it should be. We had a child with us 2.5 yrs and he/she would of been here longer (SW) if the birthmom had not decided to give up and sign her rights away. I also had a cut & dry case that should of only taken a couple of months but b/c the DSS let some things slip it went to an over 2+ yr. case. We stick with kids as long as it takes so there is no multiple placements and will even keep their slots open so they don't have to go to another placement if theirs falls thru.
But I have also seen some kids go to some very good adoptive homes and have great families too. If I done it for the system, we would of quit long time along.
It just hit me... I know where I have seen you (Ladyofmoon..) and your adorable little boy, at the Wake Forest Consignment sale a couple of months back. And I see you have been blessed with another one. Congraulation and lots luck.
