Foster adopt in Wisconsin???

HI there!I'd love to hear from anyone adopting from the foster care system in WI.

We are waiting for kids to adopt, (we aren't a concurrent home), and have been matched with a sibling group, and they want to place them in January. So far we have VERY LITTLE history, only names ages, medical, etc. No pictures yet -don't even know what race they are! (not that we care, but it would be nice to know).
Our worker said we should be "firmly committed" to the kids at this point - which we are, but it would be nice to know more info.

Next week the childrens' worker is coming to our home - then they will place the kids in January.
I'm assuming we'll get more info next week, but I'm wondering if this is typical how everything works? I'm also wondering if this meeting is more informational, or if she's actually interviewing us to make sure we're a good match.
anyone here in WI have this type of experience?

Hi Guitarmom!

I'm in Milwaukee and part of the county's foster-adopt program. DH and I were blessed with a newborn boy in October. He's our first placement. We've been very lucky in that fs was matched to us 1 week after we became licensed.

FS is 7 weeks old now and is a blessing! We've attended 1 court hearing, with BPs present, and another hearing is scheduled in 2 weeks.

We went shopping for a pram during that cold snap last week and DH asked if we wanted to foster a little girl (we're licensed for newborn - 5y/o)! One baby at a time!

Anyone else out there?????

Hi Guitar Mom!
We are in Madison & are almost done w/the home study. Did you complete a special needs adoption home study through the state? Or are you licensed foster parents? Just wondering. After my foster care experience, I'd wait to get more info on the kids before saying I'm firmly committed... how can you firmly commit when you hardly know anything about them. I guess I would keep quiet & wait for more info to arrive. We're looking for a boy/girl sib group between ages 4 & 8, any race. :-)

Julie-
We are a licensed foster home through the special needs program(state),but we are only taking kids eligible for adoption. The referral we got fell through ,so we are back to square one. It just seems the cw was being very secretive about giving us more info. I don't like that at all, but what can I do after requesting info and they say no? I dont' like the fact that we are required to say yes/no to kids who we know little about - what if there's some important thing they're leaving out??It just doesn't feel right to me!
Are you going through the state program,or something else?

Hey ladies!

We have a baby fs placed with us on Oct 29. We're on the foster-adopt program. We've had 2 court hearings with BP's and fs 90-day review is in early January. BP and FP for other children will also attend - btw, FP for the other kids are the birthmom's parents.

We're doing this through Milwaukee County. We became licensed on Oct 9th.

So far, everything looks to be in our favor for TPR. Alright, now I've probably jinxed it.
