Hi, I'm in Hickory, NC. My DH and I are hoping to adopt a sibling group of 2 or 3, up to the age of 7. We should be going for our first interview with our social worker within the next week or 2 and starting MAPP classes in September. I'm hoping that since we want an older sibling group we won't have to wait long for a placement, but I'm willing to be patient.

Are you planning on fostering or foster/adopt? What age of child are you hoping for? Have you already taken the classes? I'd love to chat with you about your experiences.

Amanda

where are the nc people

Hello Nanab, We are from Wake Forest, NC and have been licenses since Jan. 2005 with no placements. I do provided respite for a 2.5 yr old girl on the weekends. We have been licensed for 3 kids (0-18yrs) but we are only willing to take 0-7 yrs due to having 3 bio kids (12, 7 & 7). SW said it would be better to keep them under our youngest child. Plus we are down for special needs. I believe sometimes, since our last name starts with a 'W' we will rarely ever get a call unless it is a child no one really wants. Do you have any kids?

We are foster/adopt. More foster right now and maybe later adoption. We are licensed thru DSS. We are hosting 2 boys from russia right now thru ICA. If the boys and other kids get seen while they are over here, it counts as one of the two trips required for a russia adoption. How long have yall been waiting?

My husband and I are from Winston-Salem and are in the final stages of our adoption. We are adopting a sibling group of three...boys ages 8 and 9 and a girl 4. We have had the children since December and are finally about to finish the interstate paperwork needed in order to proceed with the adoption.
we waited for one year to be matched with these children and I was very proactive in searching for them. They are from Nevada. It has been a long road but the children are wonderful (they are a handful with minor special needs).
Good luck to all in NC...we are proof that it can and will happen.

Jennifer

It has been a little on the wild side. I think after they leave I will probably be able to handle anything. The oldest one would make a great kid to anyones family and the youngest needs to be in family that would let him be boss. In the short couple of weeks they have been here, I have noticed weigh gain. If your classes are anything like ours, you will enjoy them. It seems that all we have been doing is waiting. We were told by our first agency that they were in a big need for stay at home moms for the high risk infants but after going to a couple of classes and filling out a questionaire, they declined us because we were not willing to take teens (sexual active). So DSS was looking for stay at home moms for the baby that are too sick, left at the hospital, and/or too young to go to day care. But so far, nothing has happen. What agency are you going thru?

Hey everyone!

Dh & I are waiting in Alamance County. Ahhh. We started the process in Feb of 04. Everything is completed and we are licensed for 3 kids up to 8. We have be referred several times...but have yet to be picked. It's just a little disheartening. Ya know? I am still anxious and excited....but a little sad about it all. We had one referral that our sw thought we would be picked for...but we weren't. Is it just me, or does this feel like a lottery? Maybe I am looking at it wrong...or maybe it is our sw....I don't know.
HOw are things coming along for the rest of you?

We are using CHS....but I am trying to determine if that is the right thing....
Although, I confronted our sw about everything that I have heard about the agency, and she assured me that they are doing what they can..but they are really busy....so she went ahead and sent out information to 3 dss's so we are being referred through them too. I think it might be a good thing that we have 4 places referring us.... I HOPE!
