Have a question

Hey everyone, well i havent talked to many of you latelly. We have a little girl who is 7 months old we got her when she was 2 months old, Moms parental rights were terminated about 3 weeks ago and dads court date is tommorow ( and yes we hope he doesnt show, they arent expecting him to, and we have never met either parents) My question is if dad doesnt show his parental rights will be terminated then from what we were told. After that adoption paper work begins, does anyone know if she could be taken away after this? We love her to pieces...

Hmm, I am in new york state so can not say for sure. But, usually (unless your state is different), foster parents have first chance to adopt, due to bonding issues.
The best bet is to speak with the social worker and see what the plan is.

Sheree, I am in Washington, region 3. If they terminate parental rights there still has to be a court order saying that and there are 30 days to appeal after that. Technically there is supposed to be a family search and if there is not a family member found then usually the foster family is asked. Do you have a unified homestudy? If not then you will have to have an adoption homestudy before adoption can take place. Also, the wait can be several months to 18 months for all the disclosure and negotiating adoption support etc. I hope all goes well for you. What Region are you in? Erin
