I have been going this process of foster to adopt my nephew every since July 26, 2004 and finally this past Monday the parental rights were terminated. I don't know if i should jump for joy or just do a couple of flips down the sidewalk. How long does it take for an adoption to go through? Can you get any adoption assistance to help with this process? I need lots of advice, please help.

I'm not sure how it works in your state but in FL they are supposed to pay for the attorney's fees (or reimburse you). Your also supposed to receive an adoptions subsidy and medicaid to assist you after the adoption is finalized. And I don't want to be a downer but again if your state is like FL, the bioparents have 30 working days to appeal the TPR (even if they voluntarily surrendered)-do your cartwheels in a month. I can't help you with how long the process takes from this point (I think it depends on each individual case-I would keep in contact the caseworker and ask alot of questions...maybe even check your state statutes if possible (I know we can access ours through our DCF website) Stay informed and ask questions.
