They do still do preplacement visits, but it is different than if you were in the same state. What happens most of the time is you visit for a weekend to meet the child(most of the time you pay for it and then are reimbursed if you decided to proceed with placement) then you either go there again or the child comes to you. This is usually between 4-10 days long. There is usually one more visit before final placement but it depends on the length of the first one. So there are not as many of them, but often they are a bit longer

Dessie,
We were matched with a sibling group in Nevada (we are in North Carolina). We flew to Nevada and had our first visit with the children shortly after being selected. We stayed four days. We paid for our trip and were reimbursed later. A couple of weeks later the children and their foster mom came to our home for a four day visit. We have remained in contact by phone the entire time. We are very fortunate that the children have a wonderful foster mom. We are now just two days away from the children being moved into our home. They will be here Tuesday around 9:30 pm and their foster mom will fly home the next day. Hope all goes well with your visits and placement of your daughter.

It depends on the age of the child. I got my youngest daughter from Texas. She was 11 months old at the time and I never had a preplacement visit with her only got pictures of her and was able to talk to the foster mother the day before she was flown to Michigan. Texas has fewer post placement visits that you will have to have done by an agency in your area then most states do making the final adoption much faster.
