Interstate Adoption Question
I am hoping someone here has been through this process and can help answer some questions. We are a week away from our sibling group coming to live with us. We are adopting three children from Nevada and we are in North Carolina. I have been making plans and doctor appointments so the boys will not be without their medication (ADHD). The social worker from their state says it may take a couple of months to transfer their medicaid card. The children are 4E eligible. I am still not sure exactly what that means. She says I may need to find a doctor and pharmacy that will accept their Nevada card or that we pay for their medical visits along with their meds and be reimbursed somehow. This seems strange... I hope someone can share their experience and maybe give me other options.

Hi Jenn,
First off, Congratulations! How exciting for you and your family! When our 15 y/o foster son moved here from Illinois (we're in KY) his social worker here gave us a letter stating that he is in foster care and that we are waiting for his card. All of the doctors and pharmacy here accept that for their payment. I'm not sure how things would work there. I've learned that all States DON'T do things the same...you'd think they would. Best of luck with your new children. What a Merry Christmas this will be in your house. Michelle

Congrats on your matching and placement. I have been told that something can be written in the contract as well, but I have not completely had to deal with this yet. I know we have had a tough time finding therapists to work with us regarding the out of state card and they are trying to figure out what to do. We are a few months off through before our placement happens.
