No Child Profile?
We are considering adopting an older child from the Texas system. Her worker says the she does not have a child profile / study / writeup.
How is that possible? Is this common for Texas, certain counties of Texas, or other states? |

Child's History
If a child has not been in the system very long there may not be an official file on her but one should be in process which identifies if nothing more the reason for removal from home, family history, any special needs (suspected or determined), etc. If one is not in process then request one including current school testing and grades, etc, psychological evaluation (if applicable) and medical history. Do not, under any circumstances, accept a child without a "file" or you will be agreeing to be responsible for any situation which arises (from something simple to ordinary grief counseling to the worst!) without any assistance (emotional or financial) from the state, agency or whatever!

In Texas a cw should first provide a HSEGH, which is several pages of their health, social, educational and G? history.
It basically explains why they came into care, shows their placement history, social development, educational history and describes their birthfamily members. It should also include their psychological diagnosis. To be available for adoption the cw must prepare an adoption packet which includes all their notes from the first time into care to present. It will be copied and deidentified before sent to a selected family. All children should have been given a psychological. This file will include all notes about each foster home, behaviors, educational needs, report cards, birth records etc. Everything about a child should be in this that CPS has available. Usually TX files are very large, but it would depend on the age of the child and length of time in care, but no matter what it should be available. May I ask which region in TX you are working with? We're in the DFW area. I have found all regions work quite differently. Hope this helps! ![]() |
