My husband and I would like to be foster parents, but i can't seem to get anyone to help me get started. The only name I can find is Betsi Fredrikson in the phone book under Foster Parenting but she is never in. how do you begin, who do you contact, where do you go?

Thanks, I found that on another thread after I posted my question--wouldn't you think it would be easier to find, though? I thought they needed parents, yet I still don't know where to send the application. (maybe I need to read the information a little closer)

Call the Department of Children and Family Services, Department of Social Services, or Department of Human Services, whatever it's called in your area. It should be in the government section of your phone book.

I've called and left two messages ( I just keep getting a machine) but no one has called back.

Be persistant... I had to leave several messages before getting a call back. They do need Foster Parents in Colorado. I dont know what county you are going through but some counties are extremely short handed.

We're in El Paso county, I finally got an answer, and after trying two agencies, bethany came right out and we are getting signed up. I'm just surprised at how hard it is to get started!

Hi Nancy! I am also in El Paso County, and also a Bethany foster mom. I would love to be of support to each other. We were recently licensed and have already had a total of 4 kids in care! 1 sibling set of three and 1 respite care baby.

Hi guys,

I was just going through the same thing as you.. trying to find out info on fostering. I ran into a place online and it's called Kids Crossing, It's on Fountain across from the cemetary... I went there on Friday and the woman there the runs the place is FANTASTIC! I was going there for information because of another situation but she was more than willing to help me.
They perform their own homestudies, classes orientations etc... She was a great help to me...

Hi Noel.. I agree Kids Crossing is an awesome organazation. My church Sunrise UMC does some work with them. I believe they are more of a medical special needs agency right? Like physical handicaps and high medical needs?

No, they aren't just special needs. We just got licensed through them two weeks ago yey us ! lol...

They are just an agency that place all different kinds of fs.

But they are wonderful, I just love everyone we have met that works there, and they are very easy to get along with.
