NewKid,
I have had both situations. I think it partially depends on the bio parents and how much the social worker trusts them to be responsible. I have two girls that visit at two different offices. One in St. Tammany and one in Washington parish. I do know that the Washington parish one has a one way mirror for the sw's to watch without the parents knowing if they are nervous about behaviors or anything. It may also depend on how busy the sw's are. My 3 year old is in adoptions and still visits her brother and if the sw is too busy we do the visits on our own. But with my 1 year old we are waiting and hoping for TPR and on the visits with her parents they are always supervised. Whether the sw is behind the window, in the room, or sitting in the waiting room with me and walking in to check on them from time to time. Feel free to ask me any other questions you may have!
