Adoption Assistance Application Question
I am having troubles answering question #4 on the application. I was wondering if anyone could break it down for me.
4. In thinking about the needs of this child and the resources (financial, extended family, community services, etc.) available to your family, what will be REQUIRED in assition to those resources to continue support this child in your household. I am not sure but does this question have anything to do with the monthly payment you ask for on the application? My son is a drug effected child, he also has 1/2 siblings I am hoping to keep him in contacted with, but they live outside our area. Can anyone help with this I am stuck. Thanks so much..

I can help you the best I can. Yes, it has to do with the amout you are asking for on the application. They want to have an idea what you are using the money for. Being this child is your son and no longer going to be a ward of the state, the money you are asking for needs to be somewhat justified for the care of his needs. I think we put down we wanted subsidy for the zoo, swimming and similar activities to promote bonding. We figured respite in there too. Our son had diaper allergies and needed a specific diaper. Our son at that time was diagnosed with an illness so we put that down as a special need. Respite, for example would be a requirement for us to keep our sanity
. Since your son has siblings you might write down, "would like monthly visits with siblings who live __ miles away" then document what you think milage and car wear would be separately so if you are asked you can refer to what you figured in cost. If I remember correctly, they didn't give much space in the application so I didn't document cost on the actual application, I only wrote his special needs and things and services we would need. Ask your cw if you have questions too. I know there are some things you wont get assistance for like, I do not believe you can count pre-school unless it is therapy that your insurance doesn't cover. We also put down what it would cost in premiums for our son to be added to my husband's insurance. We took OHP too for a secondary insurance. I hope this helps. You can PM me if you have any questions too. |

You will not get subsidy money for any issue covered under the Oregon Health Plan or for any service offered by the public school system. The state will assume these needs will be met under those progams.
For our daughter the requests were easier since she was older and we knew more about what she might need. She was identified as 'socially' at risk so we were able to claim things like pre-school for the social reasons, dance classes, and other things that fell into that catagory. She also had alergies and the Oregon Helath Plan does NOT cover those costs so we included that in our request. Our son was much younger and we did not know many of the issues we might have to face. For him we asked for a litee less (rule of thumb is to never ask for more then the Foster Care amount by the way) Also remember the applications are reconfirmed or submitted every year so if you have new issues arrise you can ask for more later. Our son has proven to be very active and we have had to go beyond the 'general' child proofing things which we will ask for a little more next year--also he has worn me out and we will be requesting respit and other help for me....
