Hello everyone! I see nobody has been saying much on here for a long time. Let me just give ya an update. We finally got our license in the mail 2 weeks ago. YEAH! we got a call last week for a little boy. SO of course we went and met him right away. We are going to start taking him i think every week until school is out for a couple of days a week. He does have a dissability, but we are hoping we can help him overcome that.He is so very cute, and only 3yrs old.He will be a permanent placement. How wonderful is that! We are very excited. Talk to ya'll later kepp me updated with everything going on with you. Thanks, Weezy

Hi , congrats that is wonderful news. It's always exciting to have a first placement. We haven't had a new placement for several years. You said that this was a permanent placement. Are you planning on adopting the child? Watch that new subsidy paper that is going around if you are going to do adoption. They are removing alot of needed info in there and basically short changing the kids. Welcome to the world of fostering nad good luck.

Removing subsidy!

Just curious as to what they are removing? Is this something that is in the fine print? I'm kinda in the dark here. So anything you can tell me would be much appreciated. Thank you.

subsidy

They are planning on using a new form (some areas are already using it without training) One part that has been removed is the line that states that" subsidies will never go down only up." State wants to be the ones who can decide when reviews will be done and what can be removed. They are also working on removng the subsidies for Theraputic Daycare and respite except for those who have sever disabilities. Well bad behaviors that families have to deal with also need respite from time to time to hel pkeep a falimy going. Without the support that is needed we are all afraid that adoptions will start going down and these kids will be once again without a permament home. Another part of the form is that it is to be filled out by case workers. They will need to sign that the adoptive parent has been give all the history of that child. They are asking caseworkers to handle things where attorneys are normally used. The attorneys are not going to be the ones repesenting the best intrest of a child. There are many of us who are fighting this and have sent letters to ask that the wording be redone on this form.

Weezy, I asked what COUNTY you are in, not country. We are in DuPage. If you are nearby and interested in foster parent support groups, send me a message.

For more information about the subsidies go to Illinois Foster Adoptive Parent Association web site. They just posted the info on there.

Annie - I didn't make it to the conference. The boys and I had a Cub Scout campout that was planned last fall. Needless to say, we truly enjoyed the weather! So how was the conference?

Conference was great. Always fun to meet other foster paretents. There were alot of new ones. I was in the postion to sit and talk (and WORK) and so many concerns fro the newbies. There is info on the IFAPA site on the subsidies questions. There is a link might want to check it out. But the classes werent' bad some of them same old thing but when you do this long enough you swear you can get up there and teach the people. It woudl be a different side to things.

Glad you had fun camping.
