Anyone Else Just Starting Classes in KY??

In February my husband and I signed up for foster care classes in our community. We will be attending our first class a week from today. I was just curious if anyone else is in the beginning stages of their foster care training? 10 weeks seems like a life time away, but I am sure that it will be complete before I know it. I was also wondering if anyone else is a current foster parent in KY and knows what type of demand their is for foster families. Thank you. --Amy--

Not sure which county or region you are in, however, I would have to say in my region there is either no need for foster homes, or there is tto much need. We called in December. We were told to start in April, however, the worker wanted to ask her supervisor one question about something on our application. She would be back with us in a week. Three months, several phone calls and emails later, I gave up and contacted her supervisor. She wants me to get a psychological evaluation done before beacuase I went throguh grief counseling in college after my father's death. She wants me to do this 60+ miles away, at my own expense, and it could not be completed before the classes began in April, due to when she finally contacted me. Therefore, it will be at least one more full year before we would be able to begin classes due to work schedule restrictions. Obviously they need none here, or the workers are too busy to send an emial to their supervisor. We gave up on state and are going to go private agency foster program after I have dental surgery in a few months. good luck.

May I Ask What Region You Are From?

If it isn't too personal may I ask what region you are from? I called the main region office in my area and was not treated very nicely at all. I was asked why it was that I did not call my local office and speak to someone there instead of calling the region office. I explained to the lady that I did not know the number. She rudely just put me on hold and rattled off a number and hung up. I didn't call for a few days for fear everyone was like this. Finally I decided it couldn't hurt to try and I called my local office. I was directed to the absolute nicest woman that you could ever want to meet. She has been there for me through every question I have had and our initial consultation at our house was wonderful. She was pleasant and helpful and I could not have asked for better. We just finished our first meeting and I could not be any happier by how friendly and helpful everyone is. I am working on my profile packet, I had to get a physical and references, but no one has mentioned any out of pocket expenses. I hope everything continues to go well. I did not know there were private foster care agencies in KY... I hope everything goes well for you. Take Care.

Fifth week of classes

My husband and I are in our fifth week of classes. We have found these classes to be quiet interesting. However there's alot of paper work and roadwork which we didnt expect. We have completed our profile and the majority of our packet such as physicals, references, roadwork, etc. Will be glad to assist you in away possible. Our worker will be coming into our home on the 13th of this month to do a home evaluation. We only have 3 more weeks of classes. We can't wait to adopt the child we already have in our custody. We have a now 4 month old boy in our home which has been with us since he was 2 weeks old. This is a relative placement child and he is so adoreable. These classes are well worth everything you go through. Good luck. Hang in there.
