Angry Licensed without a placement yet

I have been licensed for foster care in Michigan since December 16th 2003 and haven't received a call for placement yet. I am licensed for girls age 3-6 and I would like to eventually adopt. I look on MARE but the children are always over 10 years old or have a male sibling. I didn't realize it took so long to get a placement. Is this common?

I guess it depends on where you are and the age and gender you want. I'm from Genesee County and the agency I'm going to be fostering from says that there are kids WAITING on foster parents. My agency also works through 2 other counties.

They said that they have to place at least 8 kids a day.

I should be licensed by May.

I am going to foster 1 boy (to start with), age 5 - 10.

Always call your agency and find out why you haven't recieved a call yet.

I hope you get a call very soon!!!

waitng for placement

I hope you have your placement by now!

It took my husband and I longer for the licence than anything (almost a year!) We got our licence in October 2003, and got first placement almost two months later. We are working through FIA of Macomb County. I hear through the grapevine, that if you live in a more 'metro' type place, you get children sooner.

It also depends on age and race. And our caseworkers tell us that system goes through stages. Last November, it was sib groups that came in droves. In January, it was teenagers. In March, it was drug babies.

Good Luck

Unhappy

Thank you for your response. I have been licensed for 5 months now and I still haven't gotten a placement!
