First placement finally!!!!!!!!!

We got our first placement finally after waiting 3 years. It was so much fun, but over too soon. We had them for 5 weeks and then they went home. We are hoping our name is out there now and we won't have to wait long for the next placement.

I hope you get a call sooner next time too. I waited almost as long as you did for my first placement. I finally had to raise my age limit. I heard that once you have "connections" with a worker or an office, you tend to get more calls. I don't know if that's true or not but I'm counting on it when it comes time for my next one!

Congratulations!
Dawn

wow, you guys have had as much luck as us. We have been licensed for 4 years ( renewing our license now), and have had two placements and those being our only calls too. We even left for awhile and went to lutheran services in peoria who lied to us and after 10 months we switched back to dcfs. 6 months later we got a call for our foster daughter. We just found out yesterday the bio mom wants to meet us and is considering surrendering to us!! There just is not a huge need for foster parents in IL it seems like... where are you guys located? west central IL here..

Can't wait to hear about the new placement. We're in DuPage County and haven't had a placement since last summer. We've had two possible placements, but each time the court decided not to grant DCFS custody. We are licensed for four children.

We had our licensing worker out recently who said " maybe I am wrong but I am a big advocate for parental rights. We are just not taking kids like we used to and keeping the families intact" Am I the only one that sees a problem with that. I asked him how he feels about childrens rights these days? Every day our fd struggles and she is only 3 and a couple of weeks ago they had a "friends" day at her preschool and this other child was introducing the other kids to her grandparent and pointed to our fd and said this is ____ and she is the bad one in the class. "!#$&*!!!" parents rights what about her rights???? she is the 3 child to be removed and there is still a baby at home. they need something significate to happen to the baby to remove him. WHAT??? what is that something major to happen to a baby in order to remove him from a proven bad situation. Because "nothing" has happened to him they cant use the other kids to remove him. Please explain that to me so that is makes since? Where are all the kids in need that need good foster homes? There not in IL because parental rights take priority.

Unfortunately Sophie2 what you are saying is true. The parents rights do seem to take precedence over the rights of the child. We have a sibling group of 3 that we have had for over 2 years and what these kids have went through has been awful, all for the sake of the "parents rights." Since we have had the kids for over a year, we hired our own attorney to speed the TPR along and it has worked! I only wish that we had done this a year ago. Oh, and by the way, all of you need to move to Southern Illinois. We have alot more foster children than we do foster parents. Due to the drug problems here, there are lots of kids needing homes due to drug busts. These kids need good homes just as much as anyone else! So come on down!!!!
