Thumbs up Wide Horizons

My husband and I are adopting our first child through Wide Horizons. We know several people who have adopted through their services and were extreamly happy with them. My personal experience has been nothing but positive from the initial contact. I definately would recommend Wide Horizons. Please let me know if you'd like to know specific experiences I've had thus far (we're getting ready to begin our home study). I'd be happy to go into further detail!

Wide Horizons

We are using Wide Horizons for Children and are thus far very pleased with our experience. We are waiting to be matched with a little girl from the Philippines and have found everyone very knowledgable and extremely patient and kind. Hope this helps, Shelley

Wide Horizons

Hi SKP,
I too am just starting out on the adoptive road and I made my first call to Wide Horizons yesterday. I also emailed Marta, who is in charge of the "waiting children" program, but have not heard back yet.

Can you (anyone) share their thoughts with me regarding their experience with WH? I' eager to hear anything. I've researched quite a bit of agencies/DSS and was drawn to them probably due to their waiting child program. My husband and I are hoping to adopt a little boy.

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks
Danielle

We are adopting a baby girl who was a waiting child through WHFC. Our experience thus far has been wonderful. Our daughter has been home 7 weeks and has adjusted quite easily to our household. Marta and all the staff at WHFC have been very helpful and are very knowledgeable. I hope this helps. If you have any specific questions please feel free to e-mail me. Shelley

waiting children

Hi Shelly,
Do you mind if I ask how old your daughter is? How long did the process take from homestudy to having your daughter home with you. I've read that the process is a bit quicker for waiting children inasmuch as they are already "waiting" for a family. Also, did you find that WH was about the same price as other agencies? From the research I've done they are all in the same ballpark.

Thank you so much for your help.

Danielle

My husband and I are also using WHFC, and know a couple who is about to bring their daughter home from ethiopia. They said that WHFC has been nothing but wonderful.

We have just sent in our homestudy packet and are waiting for a social worker. I was wondering for those of you past this process, how long does the homestudy take? And the whole adoption process from homestudy to bringing home your child?

We are leaving our option of countries open and applying to more then one (a great benifit of WHFC).

I am using Wide Horizons to adopt from Guatemala, and have had a very positive experience. My homestudy took two months from start to finish, but it could have been faster--my dad had surgery right in the middle, so I had to postpone my second interview. There have been a lot of slow downs with Guatemalan adoptions, but Wide Horizons has given me a lot of information, which has helped a lot. The program coordinators are very responsive and always return my emails or phone calls within the day, which I appreciate. Please feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Lauren

We applied to WHFC 8/1/02 and Emma was home 8/8/03. We started out planning on adopting from China, then for various reasons switched to the Philippines. While waiting for a referral from the PI we went to a medical symposium at WHFC and started looking at photo's of the waiting children. We dual applied to the Korea waiting children's program. We requested to be matched with Emma, who was 6 months old at the time, in early June and permission to travel to Korea came the last week of July. I believe as far as cofst/fees WHFC is comprable to most other agencies. As far as homestudy completion, we met with the SW the first time in early to mid sept, and homestudy was completed by mid to late Oct. Emma was a 29 weeks preemie, and is 10 months old now. She has not only caught up to where she needs to be, but in some cases she is beyond. She thinks she's rady to walk. I hope I answered your questions. If you have any more feel free to ask. Shelley
