waiting in the fox valley...

Hi, anyone out there waiting to adopt in the Appleton area? I have contacted adoption groups, but at the events seemed like all families post-adoption! I am a bad waiter...and it seems like the waiting is taking forver. I think maybe I'd like to start some kind of support group or something, if there are others who need support to!

waiting!

Hi, I'm not from the Fox Valley area but the Racine County area. I agree with you about all the post adoption posts on the board, however, I would add that many of the other post are adopting under 2 and at least have a nursery, clothes toys etc to keep them alittle occupied. I am adopting a 5-6 yr old and are not as lucky.
I are one of those fortunate soles? I feel kind of lonely because there isn't much to do and not many people are talking about the emotions of dealing with an older child.
Just thought I would add my two cents worth. Good luck with your support group.
Stacy

Hi Stacy, I am orginally from Neenah but recently moved to the Madison area. I know what you mean about the waiting part. We are adopting older children so we don't know what their needs will be so we can only do so much preperation. If it makes you feel any better you can just keep in mind that their are others in your situation. And if you ever feel like you need to talk or vent feel free to send me a message! The waiting is awful! Good Luck on your support group I'm sure there are people in the Fox Valley waiting to adopt. Karen

Waiting...

Hi Karen,

How far are you in the process. I've seen you posting other places, I just can't remember what's your situation?

Sending our papers to Madison is our next step but I am so confused without having all the paperwork infront of me. I like to research things alittle if I don't know how to do something, but with adoption you must waiting and waiting before moving to the next part.

Thanks for allowing me to vent.

Stacy

Hi Stacy, we are very early in the process. We have had 1 home-study visit and have another one scheduled in a few weeks. The social worker told us it would probably be 3 visits before the home study is complete. We are trying to adopt through DSS and hope for a older sibling group. We will probably end up being placed with children from Milwaukee county, at least that's the impression we got from the social worker. Just waiting for another home study visit is an exhausting process at least emotionally. I can't imagine what it will be like when the home study is complete and we are waiting to be matched. Where are you in the whole process? Karen

Hi Karen

Hi Karen,

We started with a domestic adoption but we stopped because they said they wouldn't place any children in our home until our little ones grew up. (We wanted older kids).

The sexual issues that are in the USA are far more scary for us than international adoption issues.

Milwaukee is a good bet, you can also try Walworth County and see if they are any children there. A girlfriend of mine said that their system is great.

I believe there are plenty of sibling groups in Milwaukee waiting to have a loving family.

Good Luck on those Homestudies! 3 More?! WOW. Thank God we only have one!

Take Care
Stacy

Hi everyone.

I just moved out of the Appleton area, but did adopt a baby boy through the newly activated Catholic Charities Infant Adoption Program. They began doing adoptions again last year. They only allow a small number of prospective adoptive parents into the program which has had 6 babies placed with only 10 couples in the program. Pretty good numbers. They may be adding more prospective couples in October. I would recommend this program to anyone in the Fox Valley area. Good Luck

Fox Valley Area

Hi,
My husband & I are in the fox valley. It would be great to have a group or something...anything. It is SO hard to wait, the whole process seems a little overwhelming without more people to talk to about it all. If you're looking for someone to correspond with, I'd like that.

Hi,
My husband and I live in Appleton and we are adopting from Panama. We are waiting for our last piece of paperwork before our dossier is completed and sent to Panama. Would love to chat with others in the area and I would be interested in a group.
Julie
