Hello all! We are very blessed adoptive parents!! We have been blessed with 7 beautiful children through adoption!! All of our kids are from Kansas. We love our open adoption plans that we have. We have been so blessed to have 6 of our 7 children come to us as infants. What a joy they have all been! We are thinking about adding to our family through adoption through KCSL. Hi Destiny! No I have not worked at a school in McPherson...Sorry!! We have only lived in this area about 5 years. We were from the Dodge City area prior to our move here.

Hi Wendy,
We are involved in open adoption and we love it!! Of our 5 bmoms that chose open adoption plans only 1 has stayed in touch. We are very thankful for that relationship. We had only 1 of our bmoms choose a closed adoption plan. Our daughters bfamily comes for visits and we go to their home as well. Her grandparents usually come a few times a year too. We are so blessed with this family!! I only wish all 6 of our bfamilies would take advantage of knowing and seeing their children mature and become awesome people!! We have always vowed that we would never try to force a relationship between bfamilies but they all no where we are and how to contact their children and us when they are ready!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I have been reading posts from all of the boards and trying to gauge the general "mood" of the boards before I really post alot.

I have gone to a few chatrooms around the net to chat with people and have made the mistake of saying something the wrong way and have been the target of much anger. I sure would like to avoid that on here.

It is difficult enough to deal with all the emotions involved in being an aparent without being the bullseye when you make a mistake with what you say. I am hoping that I can find a friendlier forum here.

Our current situation with our bmom is fairly calm, but a few months ago, It was very volatile.

She lived with us the last 5 months of her pregnancy and we became very close over that time. It was such a blessing to be able to go through most of it with her. We discussed what her wishes were and together built a plan for an open adoption that we could all agree on.

I know that in the end, she really wanted to keep the baby but her parents made her decisions for her as she was only 15 at the time. I truly wish that there were more options available for teen mothers. I am not sure if she would have kept the baby, but I just wish that her parents hadn't made her decision for her. I know she will harbor some resentment over that.

The only thing I would change about the entire process, if I could, is to make counseling mandatory for all parties involved. I think that it would help the bmom's make sure that they have made the right decision.

It looks like I'm one of the first Kansas Birthmom's to be on here. I live in Hutchinson, but am moving next weekend to go to Lawrence and KU. I love adoption and being able to give a couple the gift od family was one of the greatest things I have ever done in my life. I am so thankful for my daughter Grace and all that she has already taught me.

I plan on working to promote adoption to young woman as part of my major requirements at KU. Its such a beautiful thing. If any of you get the Hutchinson News a story about my adoption will be in there soon. I thought it would be a great start!

Hello, I was very excited to find this forum!! Even more excited to find people so close (Leavenworth and Atchison)!!!
There is a girl that I've known for a few years here that just came to me a couple of weeks ago about adopting her unborn baby. She already has a 4 month old and says she cannot handle raising another child so soon. She is only about 18 and is married but her husband feels the same way. They don't believe in abortion but they don't want to go through an agency. They want to give the baby to someone they know that will take care of the baby. After much consideration they chose us because they know what we have been through with trying to have a baby.
So, we are just going to see how it plays out. If it is meant to be then it will be. I've already been to 2 of her doctor appts. She wants me to go with her to all of her doctor appointments and be in the room when she delivers as well. She is a very responsible, mature person and I hope this turns out good for everyone but I have my reservations. I can't help but feel excited when I think about the possibility of bringing home a newborn baby next spring. I'm already thinking about what color I want to paint the bedroom, etc.
I'm trying to keep my distance but still be there for her. I don't want to get hurt if she changes her mind at some point but this would be a dream come true for me if it works out.
Me, my husband and the birth parents all met with an attorney last week. Everything seems to be running along smoothly but I keep thinking that she could change her mind at the drop of a hat. Gee home studys are expensive!!
Anyone went through an independent adoption have any tips??
