Explanation of North Carolina Residency Requirements?

If someone could clarify the state residency requirements for North Carolina, I would really appreciate it. My husband and I are considering a job offer in NC, but are concerned that there is a 6-month residency requirement for adoptions in that state. Does that mean that we would need to live in NC for 6 months before we could even begin the adoption process? What if we need to move out of state sometime down the line, but while we are still waiting for an adoption to go through? Would we still be allowed to complete that adoption?

Thanks for any info you can provide! We are considering job opportunities in several different states and we need to get as much information about the adoption proces in each state as possible.

yes you do need to live in nc for 6 months before you can start the adoption process in nc. i don't know what would happen if you moved out of state mid process.

Thanks, ocraoake. Does that mean we could not even begin our homestudy until we had lived in the state 6 months? Or do we just have to be residents for 6 months before the adoption is actually finalized (court date, etc)?

I assume from the info in your email that the residency requirement also applies to international adoption?

Thanks!

When I was starting my process my homestudy agency told me that they would not start the homestudy until I had lived in NC for 6 months. I actually just met that requirement when I started the process.
