Adopting in Nashville in two or three weeks

Has anyone adopted a baby in Tennessee? I live in Missouri and am still waiting for our agency to find a Nashville attorney for our adoption. I would love feedback from anyone who experienced an interstate adoption with Tennessee.

Thanks!!

We lived in TN when we started the adoption process & moved out of state. 3 months later we were matched & our son was born in Nashville. We had to stay in TN for 3 weeks before interstate compact was completed. Feel free to pm me if you have an specific questions. Congrats!!!

We live in Georgia and adopted from Tennessee (Memphis)in December 2005. We had a great attorney in Tennessee, but I don't think that will help you in Nashville. Our birthmother was induced (overdue) and we were in Tennessee for about 9-10 days while the interstate compact was being completed. The birthparents have to go to court to sign relinquishment papers. You will have to be present to sign papers as well. This usually occurs about 4 days after the birth (depending on birthmother's condition - ie. C-section, etc.). Our baby was born on a Thursday. We left the hospital Saturday with the baby and then went to court Tuesday. After court, there is a 10 day period in which the birthparents can change their minds (longest 10 days of your life). We actually were able to come back to Georgia before this time was up, but if they had changed their minds we would have had to take her back to Tennessee. You don't have to stay in the city of the birth while interstate is being completed - you just have to remain in Tennessee. We stayed in Memphis for awhile, but then drove to Chattanooga to wait out the rest of our time (closer to home and it split up the drive).

Good luck. PM me if you have other questions,
Snaps

Unfortunately, we found out on Friday that our situation was a scam. So, I guess we won't need to know Tennessee laws after all. 8-( Thank you for all your feedback.

Hi, we adopted our son while we lived in Brentwood TN (suburb of Nashville). We used Lisa Collins for an attorney to guide us. She is wonderful! Can't remember what firm she is with, though. She is widelt respected.
