KY adoptive parents

I really miss the KY section of the forum, so I figured we could start a thread and communicate through this.

DH and I have recently jumped back into the adoption process, and it has been going full speed ever since we made the decision. We called the agency to let them know on a Monday, went to orientation the next evening, got a lawyer on Wednesday, got a loan on Thursday, and we are now awaiting the call to schedule our homestudy. Whew! We are trying to get our profile together and I am REALLY strugglng with it. Any suggestions?

KY moms and moms-to-be, let us know how you are doing!

Hello, my name is Steph and I too live in Kentucky. I was a bit bummed about losing our Kentucky forum as it was just beginning to take off but it's also rather nifty to have a combined state forum as it has far more activity. Great thread idea srusse24.

We adopted a newborn from Guatemala. Our process begain in 2003 and he came home in January 2004. He is now 2.5 and has been home for a bit more than 2 years. Yay! He joins our older daughter who is 18. One at a time. One at a time. *heehee*

I hope all the other Kentucky fams chime in and keep in touch!

Hello!

I'm from Kentucky and would love to adopt. I have alot to learn. We would love to adopt in Kentucky.

DH and I have suffered infertility for 5 years. We have tried several IUIs with no success. We desperately want a child.

I look forward to learning how the process works.

BeagleMom- I did a ton of research before we began pursuing adoption. There is so much to learn!

Are you interested in domestic or international? If you are looking into domestic, I can provide some info about the agency we are using. Just PM me anytime!

Bassett- Any new pics of your little one? He is too cute!

Good luck to all!

Pictures you say? *heehee*

The first three are a series of 1.) getting busted doodling on the wall, 2.) drop crayon and act like nothing happened, 3.) response to picking up crayon and having to throw in trash as punishment. This is a rare naughty moment. He is a happy and very good boy. *gush*

Those are such cute pictures of your little one! Do you have a bassett hound? We have a 7 yr old bassett hound and a 4 year old beagle. They are my kids.

Is it less expensive to do domestic? We haven't researched any agencies yet. A Helping Hand has sent me a video but I haven't watched yet. I'm so afraid birthmom or relative will pop out of nowhere and take the child away from me. I just couldn't bare it.

I would love to do international adoption.

DH has started a new job & I'm hoping once he does get the benefits (6 months) that it will have adoption assistance or infertility treatments.

The fear of a reversal is exactly why we chose international adoption. The pull for us was that families are not refered a child until after their birth and the child is not placed in your home until the adoption is final. My heart needed that safeguard.

Depending on the country program it can be more or less than domestic adoption. You can learn heaps about the domestic adoption program on the General Adoptive Parents forum. There are many active members willing to share their experiences.

Oh and thanks for your nice comments,...both of you.

Hello Ladies!!!

Good idea srusse24! I've been missing all the Ky. gals (Any Ky. guys lurking?). Dh and I brought home a precious baby girl on 1/8/06 thru domestic adoption. She is truly a miracle and is perfect in every way. We are awaiting TPR and finalization (some days it seems like it will NEVER happen). We should TPR in less than a month and we will have one grand party when that happens!! I would LOVE to post a pic, but for the obvious reasons, I will be waiting a while yet.

Steph, hope you're family is doing okay. Love seeing pictures of Kiran as always. If you don't mind me asking, How did you choose his name? It is so different and I love it! When I took L to the pediatrician last week, three little Hunter's were called back before we were. I could see the parent's cringing! Bet those parents wished they had been a little more creative with naming their little ones.

Beaglemom, Just wanted to say welcome!! If you would like some info about AHH, send me a PM. We were going to use them if we didn't go domestic. I think most of us on this board can relate to your feelings about domestic adoption. Honestly, If we decide to have another child, we will not do a domestic adoption. We had a match fail last November and it is something I will never forget. What part of the state are you from? Dh and I are very close to Elizabethtown.

Kiran is a sanskrit word which means "ray of light". DH and I chose this as his name based upon its meaning. It is pronouced the same as the celtic spelling, Kieran (keer-an).

I'm glad to see that you joined the Kentucky thread. I am looking forward to seeing pics of that beautiful babe. Yay!

Hi everyone,

Thought I'd jump in here, too, since I am a Kentuckian. Liz, I live in Elizabethtown!

We adopted our son from Guatemala and brought him home in early November. We are having the most fun with him. He is the light of our lives! I will try to attach a picture.

Steph, You've made me like Kiran's name even more-I've only seen him thru pictures, but his name seems to fit him perfectly. I can't wait to post pics of L, it almost doesn't seem real that I have a child to post pictures of (We need a smilie icon that wipes away a tear of joy!)

Tina, I am sending you a PM. Maybe we can get together sometime. Your little boy is so sweet-what joy kiddos bring!! Dh and I don't know what we did with ourselves before we brought L home ( other than sleep ).

Staci, how are the homestudy preparations going?

Liz- I can't hardly wait. The homestudy is Saturday and I'm just excited to get it over with and get our profile out there. We went to an infant care class Monday and one couple from our group has already been matched with a babe due Feb. 25. They're homestudy was just two weeks ago! I really hope we don;t have a long wait, but I'm preparing myself in case we do.

Tina- Your son is a doll! Welcome to the group!

It is great to see this thread active. I love hearing about all of your darlings! I'm maybe a tad jealous, but I know my day is coming!

Well girls, we finished the homestudy. Actually, we finished our part, now the SW must write everything up and it must be approved, but I'm not worried about that. She said it should be approved in 10-14 days and then our profile can be shown. Now the wait begins...

How did you all keep your mind occupied during the wait?

I do work, and DH and I joined a gym to focus on "getting fit", but I am still worried I will be one of those people that jumps everytime the phone rings.
