adoption laws
Can anyone tell me what the basic adoption laws are in missouri.
HOw long do pbparents have to contest? How long to finalize? What are basic requirements? I'm out of state and a distant relative is considering us for aparents for her baby any help would be greatly apprieciated! The baby is due very soon! Crystal

Consent in MO can be given after 48 hours and it is irrevocable except for certain situations. MO also has a putative father registry. Finalization occurs 6 mos after consent but since you are in another state, you should get legal counsel ... you will have to do an Interstate Compact and, depending upon the county your relative is in in MO, there may be short-term foster care involved.
