Just wanted to vent about an agency my husband and I WERE using, which are no longer. It is also in response to a post. I am truly sorry to hear what you are going through. Belive me, I can sympathize with you. My husband and I had a similar problem with an agency we were dealing with (which we are no longer using). Have you tried contacting the individual who has done your home study? I don't know what state you are in, but usually the background check will take approximately one month. But the rest of the homestudy should not take that long. My husband and I were using an out of state agency, who has lost their article 13 to do busines my husband and I are living in. We had already laid out $4,000. The agency we were dealing with claimed that they placed 300 babies a year. That money was for our family profile. I am quite surprised that your home study cost $1,500. Again, I don't know what state you are in, our home study was only $950. Have you done any kind of background check on the agency? I would. Try to contact the state social service department to find out and the Better Business Bureau to see what is up with them. The agency we were using "dumped us". One of the agreements that was reached between the state that agency was in and where we are came to an agreement and they had to refer us to another agency. Which they did. Luckily, the new agency took everything we had. Good luck with everything and let me know what happens.
I needed to vent and just to alert individuals and couples who adopt to make sure that they do a thorough check with whatever agency they decide to deal with. Thanks again for letting me vent. |

Do not hesitate to file a report with the Better Business Bureau about this agency so that other couples who may not be viewing this site may be able to know of their errors in your case.
(I always advise people to do so; I did it myself.)

With everything that has happened, New York State knows about it. My husband and I were not the only couple that got ripped off by them. There were a total of 28 couples that were involved. Final agmt that was reached was the following: this agency had to match them with a birthmother and not take on any more NYS couples. Or you had the option to leave this agency, but they had to refer us to another agency. Which we finally did. Luckily for us, this new agency took everything we had, including our family profile which was great. We are hanging in there. Something will happen. Thanks.
