Does anyone know where I can find definitive info on what's needed to get a ssn for an internationally adopted child. We brought our cofc and foreign adoption papers but were told we 'probably' need to readopt. As far as we can tell, TN does not REQUIRE this step so it would not be a requirement for ss. I know we can apply and get a permanent resident alien ssn but I am looking for a ssn issued to our child as a citizen (which, by law and certificate she is.....). Just seems like ss doesn't understand that in our area. Thanks

Hi. I don't know if you still need an answer or not but we adopted our son from Russia in Dec 2004. We went to our local SS office & completed the form there. We had to have his certificate of citizenship, adoption decree, & birth certificate. We didn't have any problems getting it. We had been told by our agency that we'd need his Russian passport but we weren't asked for it. Good thing too as our agency still had it doing the Russian registration paperwork.
